Welcoming Our Inaugural Cohort

By Professor Jenny Higham
Senior Vice-Dean

After three years of intense preparation, the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) has finally admitted its inaugural cohort. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the successful 54 students who underwent a rigorous admissions process to earn their places at LKCMedicine.
The curriculum team from Imperial College London, in close collaboration with Singapore, have developed a modern and innovative course.  This features the best of Imperial’s world-class medical curriculum with bespoke adaptations to make it a perfect fit for Singapore’s healthcare needs.
LKCMedicine’s curriculum delivery, which focuses on Technology-Enhanced Learning and Team-Based Learning, will ensure the development of future doctors who are both team players and technologically savvy.
I am pleased that our students will be the first students in South-East Asia to use the Anatomage Table which offers realistic 3D renderings of the human body, complimented with high-quality plastinated  anatomy specimens. They will also build their confidence and skills with simulated patients to allow a safe place to practice. Together with early exposure to clinical settings such as hospitals and polyclinics, I believe we have established a solid foundation for medical students to take their first steps towards a fulfilling career in medicine.
When this inaugural cohort graduates in 2018, I am confident LKCMedicine and Singapore will be very proud of their achievement.
