NTU Alumni Toastmasters Club members pay tribute to educators during their 166th Chapter Meeting
Some 25 NTU Alumni Toastmasters Club members had a joyous Teachers’ Day celebration as they gathered for their 166th Chapter Meeting at the NTU Alumni House at one-north on 25 August.
The meeting commenced with an ice-breaker session as alumni shared stories of people who have shaped their lives. Club President, Advanced Communicator Bronze, Competent Leader Mr Chua Seng Cheong (NBS/1975) delivered a motivational opening speech and showed his appreciation to club members who are educators and veteran toastmasters. These members have aided the development of many other members.
Mr Chua then shared inspiring stories such as that of Mr Xia Boyu who conquered Mt. Everest this year at the age of 69 after his fifth attempt, despite being a double amputee. Mr Chua took the opportunity to remind members to relentlessly pursue their dreams despite setbacks. The club meeting provided a good platform for learning.
As part of the Teachers’ Day celebration, a game session hosted by Vice President of Education 1, Mr Ethan Lee (SCE/2013), was conducted during the meeting. Various teams competed with one another to answer riddles of special meanings. Toastmaster Mr Zhao Xinxing (EEE/2017) then led an entertaining table topic session on teaching and learning. The table topic is an impromptu segment where members choose a foreign topic to speak on. The meeting concluded with great food and company as alumni interacted with one another.
