Skin Research Institute of Singapore at LKCMedicine

25 September 2013 saw the announcement of the establishment of the Skin Research Institute of Singapore (SRIS) right here at LKCMedicine’s Novena campus. The School is part of the NTU team collaborating with the Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR) and National Skin Centre (NSC) to set up the Institute.

The partners are committing close to S$100 million to skin research, and will harness the expertise of their scientists, clinicians and engineers to foster and conduct high impact, inter-disciplinary skin research designed to translate into improved health outcomes and quality of life.

Professor of Cell Biology at LKCMedicine David Becker said at the press conference that unlike the West, skin research is widely untapped in this region or in Singapore, despite Singapore seeing a high incidence and variety of skin diseases. “I'm excited to bring my research here, to develop it and translate it into better quality of life for patients afflicted with skin diseases,” he added.
