The Inaugural LKCMedicine White Coat Ceremony

With Minister for Health Mr Gan Kim Yong as the Guest-of-Honour, our inaugural cohort of 54 students donned their white coats for the very first time on 15 August 2013 in a symbolic ceremony marking the beginning of their journey as medical students and future doctors.

Held at NTU’s School of Art, Design and Media auditorium, NTU President Professor Bertil Andersson, President & Rector of Imperial College London Sir Keith O’Nions, parents and invited guests looked on with pride as the students went on stage individually to receive their white coats and stethoscopes from Dean of LKCMedicine Professor Dermot Kelleher and their Senior House Tutors respectively.

Senior Vice Dean Professor Jenny Higham then led the students in the ‘Declaration of a New Medical Student’, followed by a recitation of the Dannie Abse poem ‘Song for Pythogoras’ by Assistant Professor of Medical Humanities Harry Wu. The momentous occasion closed with a tea reception which provided the opportunity for proud parents to snap a few for the family photo album.
