Alumni Weekend Escapade
A weekend visit to Malacca and Johor Bahru on the last weekend of June provided much fun for alumni and their families

Exploring Malacca’s cultural sites and savouring durians at a durian plantation, NTU alumni and their families enjoyed a weekend of non-stop fun. Other highlights of the trip included a visit to the bee farm, and shopping in Malacca’s famous Jonker Street and Johor Premium Outlet. There were also historical tours to the Sam Po Kong Temple, the Baba Nyonya Museum, the Dutch Square, Clock Tower, Queen Victoria’s Fountain, Christ Church and much more.

On the first day, the activity that most impressed alumni was the visit to the bee farm, where they learnt how bees are kept and how honey is produced. The beekeeper shared with his audience more about the living environment of the bees. Alumni were thrilled when the beekeeper showed them the queen bee. They were also pleased to try out freshly collected honey from the beehives and different kinds of honey from the farm.

The highlight of the second day was a visit to the durian plantation at Tangkak, Johor Bahru. Surrounded by durian trees, alumni indulged themselves in savouring the King of Fruits, amongst amiable company. This was followed by shopping at Johor Premium Outlets, and a delicious Chinese dinner to top it off.

The two-day ‘Malacca Trip with Durian Feast’ was organised by the Alumni Affairs Office and held on the weekend of 30 June to 1 July. A total of 84 alumni and their families attended the event.
