New year, new adventures

Welcome to our first issue of 2018! And what an eventful year the Year of the Dog promises to be. We will see our inaugural cohort graduate and start work as junior doctors. We will celebrate more milestones and launch new initiatives to spearhead research for better health.

Before we plunge headlong into the year, let's step back and take a moment to enjoy our surroundings. Appreciating art, film and literature teaches us to see things from different perspectives, helps us reconcile differences of views and encourages us to reflect on our own behaviour, skills that are found in the best physicians. We speak with experts and art-lovers about the role of the humanities in medicine.

We also find out from distinguished young scientists and inspirational speakers what it takes to become a successful principal investigator with your own lab.

During the December break, many of our students travelled around the region to support communities through health screenings and education. Hear what they saw and learnt during their trips to India, Nepal, the Philippines and Batam.

As always, we also have the latest news and happenings from the School.

Happy reading!
