Adventure weekend
NTU alumni and families escape from the hustle and bustle of city life to the nearby island of Batam

White sandy beaches, sumptuous seafood spreads, Indonesian delicacies and duty-free shopping kept 40 NTU alumni and their families entertained during a weekend trip to Batam Island, Indonesia.

Arriving in Batam on the morning of 26 November by ferry, alumni wasted no time in exploring the tranquil island located just 45 minutes away from Singapore. The day began with shopping at the fruits and dried products market, followed by a visit to the Kueh Lapis Factory where traditional layered cakes and freshly brewed Indonesian coffee await. For lunch, alumni got to taste Ayam Penyet, an Indonesian-style deep-fried chicken marinated and cooked in coconut milk, Salaam leaves and lemon grass and served with steamed rice and spicy sambal chilli.

The two-day trip provided lots of opportunities for alumni to make new acquaintances and dine out at interesting eateries, trying out different food from teochew porridge to authentic Sundanese cuisine. The more adventurous alumni tried out the Flying Fox – an outdoor ride where participants travel across a mountainous area by holding onto a pulley attached to a cable – and Go-Karting.

The two-day trip was fully packed, ending on a high with some last minute shopping before alumni headed home.
