Closed for more than three months, the good old South Spine Terminal Room at SS1-01-03 has been transformed and reborn with the brand new name of Learning Pod @ South Spine!
The new learning space was opened on 19 April 2010. The renovation was funded by the NTU’s Cool Campus project initiative and had incorporated many cool designs and state-of-the-art features.
The Learning Pod has been specially designed with NTU students’ needs in mind. Nowadays, most students carry their own laptops around the campus; therefore a special 'Laptop Hot-plug Area' is created. The tables are equipped with flexible power outlet and security bar for students to power up and secure their laptops. Removable power sockets and security cable locks can be loaned from the service counter.
Two high-speed printers and 40 units of desktop computers are also provided for students’ use. 20 units of these desktop computers are for use by students who have made reservation (1 hour per slot) via the online booking system.

Another newly added facility in the Learning Pod is the enclosed Discussion Rooms. There are 4 discussion rooms available for students to book for group collaboration and project discussion purposes. Each room, which can house up to eight students, is equipped with a 42-inch LCD display screen. Electrical power points are conveniently located at the centre of the table for laptop users. What’s more, both sides of the discussion room wall are covered with glass writing panels to facilitate discussions – students may write on these walls freely with non-permanent marker pens which can be loaned from the service counter.
Last but not least, a large open area has been designed for use as a flexible learning space – with configurable tables, chairs, comfortable sofas and ottomans. There are also many electrical power points on the floor for the convenience of laptop users.

So the Learning Pod @ South Spine is not just an ordinary room for computer users, but indeed, a multi-functional COOL learning space. Check it out today!
